The Child Psychology Service for Professionals

The Child Psychology Service offers a variety of services for professionals including specialist consultation clinics, clinical supervision and training to help parents, carers and professionals to think psychologically about the children and young people they work with.

Consultation

Group and individual consultation sessions offer professionals, carers and parents the opportunity to discuss worries they have about a child’s emotional well-being and/or behavioural presentation.

It is an opportunity to consult with an expert about a particular issue. Such as;

  • Explosive anger
  • Challenging behaviour
  • Competitiveness between children
  • ADHD
  • “Targeting” of particular residential staff
  • Hallucinations
  • Dissociation

These can be delivered as a one-off but many of the agencies, local authorities etc. that we work with prefer to provide whole-day or half day consultation surgeries comprising several one hour consultation slots.

TCPS will deliver these clinics at the venue of your choice although it is important that we have somewhere private.

We provide consultations to Professionals such as Social Workers, Teachers and Health Visitors. We provide a written summary of what is discussed in the consultation session and the action plan agreed.

Clinical Supervision

Dr Amber Elliott is an experienced supervisor and is listed on the British Psychological Society’s Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors (RAPPS).

We can provide supervision for Psychologists, general health and social care professionals, mental health workers and researchers who would like a psychological perspective on their work.

Psychological supervision brings a safe yet challenging relationship in which to stretch your theoretical and clinical thinking. Supervision can be orientated around any of a variety of theoretical models. The approach of the supervision will be established and agreed with you at the beginning of the supervisory period. This will depend upon your needs, preferences and personal style.

As with all of our services we carefully evaluate our supervision to ensure that we are meeting your needs and to adapt the process if necessary.

We routinely provide a written summary of what is discussed in supervision sessions.

TCPS’s training packages are available to any professional group. This has included; Teachers, Foster Carers, Residential Care Workers, Social Workers, Health Visitors, GPs etc. We can also provide training to parents.
